Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) Pipeline Software

A digital tool used to evaluate and manage the integrity of pipelines by calculating the Probability of Failure (PoF) and Consequence of Failure (CoF), helping operators prioritise inspections and maintenance based on risk rather than fixed schedules.

WHAT IS RISK-BASED INSPECTION (RBI)?

RBI is a methodology that evaluates the Probability of Failure (PoF) and Consequence of Failure (CoF) for equipment such as pressure vessels, piping, and tanks.

Instead of inspecting everything on a fixed schedule, RBI focuses effort where the risk is highest.

KEY PIPELINE-SPECIFIC FEATURES

Pipeline segmentation & risk modelling: breaks pipelines into segments based on material, environment, and operating conditions
Time-dependent degradation modelling: corrosion growth, cracking, erosion, and third-party damage
Inline Inspection (ILI) data integration: smart pigging data, anomaly tracking, and defect growth prediction
GIS integration: mapping pipelines with geospatial risk overlays
Consequence modelling for pipelines: spill volume estimation, environmental impact, population density, ignition probability
Regulatory compliance: PHMSA, API 1160, ASME B31.8S, and other pipeline integrity standards

BENEFITS FOR PIPELINE OPERATORS

Reduced inspection and maintenance costs
Better prioritisation of high-risk pipeline segments
Improved safety and environmental protection
Data-driven integrity decisions
Compliance with global pipeline regulations
